FishFrom Technologies Ltd (FFT) has a unique opportunity to develop and commercialise an early-stage aquaculture technology that is proven to TRL (Technology Readiness Level) 6. The unique FFT technology proposition is scalable and can be easily retrofitted to existing systems or can be integrated into newly designed Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) facilities saving the operator significant amounts of Capex and Opex on current installations. It also eliminates between 3 and 6% of biomass loss experienced with existing depuration methodologies.

  • Faecal waste, uneaten food and chemical contamination enters environment
  • Disease and parasites from outside (sea lice, gill amoeba)
  • Predation (seals, sharks, cormorant)
  • Escaping fish (farmed genetics mixing with wild stocks)
  • Vulnerable to extreme weather events and climate change
  • Inconsistent growing conditions

These problems are addressed by controlled land based indoor facilities employing the solutions offered by FishFrom Technologies Ltd.

FFT has an agreement with an Italian University to develop and commercialise a proprietary technology known as Photocatalytic Ozonation. Our initial efforts will focus on the development of Photocatalytic Ozonation as a depuration technology to be used in RAS and other land based processes in the global aquaculture industry. We are now scheduled to trial this with the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research (CSAR) based at Swansea University with 2 identical RAS units to prove its efficacy in the eradication of the trace compounds that are known to give fish reared in RAS systems a muddy flavour.

Due to their high bio-accumulation rate in the fish tissues, even at very low concentrations, these compounds induce an earthy-musty smell and taste in fish flesh. This results in loss of product quality and marketability. The most critical of these compounds are Geosmin (GSM) and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB).

The trials will take the technology currently rated at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 to TRL8 – proven and working at commercial scale.
